Troy Wayrynen is the photography editor at The Columbian newspaper with nearly two decades of experience covering a variety of subjects including sports, news and features. In 2005, he was awarded first place for sports feature photography in the annual SPJ contest. Some of his assignment work has taken him to Albania to cover relief efforts for refugees, Russia for a story looking back at the historic Chkalov flight and most recently to Peru for a story about women helping women in the coffee industry. He has recently returned from Torino, Italy on assignment covering the 2006 Winter Olympic games where several of his photographs were published in Newsweek magazine.
