STURGEON FESTIVAL 2009 STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RULES
Who Can Participate: If you are a student Grade 3 through college and an amateur photographer, you are eligible to participate in this contest. Age categories are as follows: A. Grades 3 through 5 B. Grades 6 through 8 C. Grades 9 through 12 D. College. Note: Minimum part-time college status is required and verifiable for those selected as finalists.
Photo Location: Submitted photos must have been taken within the Columbia River watershed. Go here or here to view a map of the Columbia River Watershed. Note: A watershed or drainage basin is the entire land area where the surface water drains to a river or other body of water. One watershed is separated from others by ridges.
Photo Subject Areas: Enter your photos in any of the three following subject areas:
- Columbia River Helper: Shows a person or persons performing an activity that benefits or helps the Columbia River ecosystem.
- My Own Columbia River: Shows your favorite image or view of the Columbia River.
- Columbia River Wildlife: Shows images of native wildlife within the Columbia River watershed.
How to Submit Entries: You may submit up to three (3) color or black-and-white photo images. You may submit your photo entries as:
- Photo prints: Minimum size of 4-by-3.5 inches. Maximum size of 8-by-10 inches.
- Electronic digital images: Save images as jpeg files and submit by e-mail or on a CD. Name your jpeg files using your first and last name and note each number entered 1, 2 or 3. (Example: MarySmith1.jpg)
Labeling Your Entries: A label with the information below must accompany EACH photo. For print photos, please label the back of each print. For e-mailed images, please include label information in the body of the e-mail message. For CDs, please include a brief note/label with your CD. You must include:
- Your name
- Name of the school you are attending
- Your home address
- Your City/State/ZIP
- Your phone (home or cell)
- Your e-mail address
- Your age category (A, B, C or D, as listed above)
- Date/ Subject Area / Location where photo was taken: (photos do not have to be from the current year)

Deadline: Entries must be postmarked or e-mailed no earlier than April 1, 2009, and no later than Thursday, April 30, 2009.
Displays and Awards: Winning photographers will be notified by May 22 and invited with their families to an awards ceremony at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 30, during the annual Sturgeon Festival. All accepted entries will be on display during the 2009 Sturgeon Festival. Gift Certificates donated by Pro Photo Supply and others will be awarded to the top finalists.
Important Notice: This contest is open to amateur photographers only. Photographs submitted become the property of the Student Photography Contest sponsors (City of Vancouver and Pro Photo Supply) and may be used by the sponsors without any payment or other compensation. Sponsors are not responsible for images submitted. Participants are not granted any rights or expectations their photographs will be utilized or retained. Families of City of Vancouver Department of Public Works and Pro Photo Supply employees are not eligible to receive prizes but may have photos displayed.
